WHAT WE DO
NewsCool provides journalism training in schools for children aged 7 to 14. We help kids develop the practical skills to create their own stories as well as critically navigate the news. We do this through interactive short sessions and fully immersive news days where pupils become junior journalists reporting real news. We also support schools to set up their own pupil-led newspaper, magazine or newscast.
WHY BOOK?
We run sessions linked to the curriculum that can be adapted to the needs of each school. Whether you want to support pupils to develop oracy skills by pitching their idea in a news conference or build confidence in reading a radio news report, NewsCool can provide memorable learning in a fun way to boost self-belief.
IMPROVE ORACY SKILLS
Journalism training develops confidence in speaking, listening, and presenting ideas clearly. We strengthen oracy skills by:

Boosting speaking confidence
Reporting news, conducting interviews and reading scripts can support children to become more comfortable speaking in front of others.

Enhancing active listening
As junior journalists, pupils need to listen carefully in interviews to respond with a thoughtful and focused follow-up question.

Encouraging clear communication
Learning to deliver news in a structured and engaging way helps children organise their thoughts and express themselves clearly.

Practicing performance
Presenting news stories teaches children how to use tone, pace, and emphasis to engage their audience.

Promoting teamwork
Working on news reports with others encourages collaboration, turn-taking, and respectful debate.
NAVIGATING THE NEWS
With so much information out there, it’s harder than ever to tell what’s true and what’s not. NewsCool helps young people sharpen their news literacy and critical thinking skills so they can spot misinformation, question sources, and think twice before sharing something online.
